America's Army is an innovative PC action game that provides civilians with an inside perspective and a virtual role in today’s high-tech Army. The America’s Army game provides players a virtual portal into the Army, from exploring the development of Soldiers in individual and collective training to their employment in simulated missions in the Global War on Terrorism. The America’s Army gamesare the only free action games that deliver an authentic and entertaining Army experience by reflecting the training, technology, actions and career advancement of a Soldier within a unique exciting game experience. In the America's Army game, players are bound by Rules of Engagement (ROE) and progress in their virtual Army careers by navigating challenges in teamwork-based, multiplayer, force-on-force operations. In the game, as in the Army, accomplishing missions requires a team effort and adherence to the Seven Core Army Values. Players who demonstrate loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, and personal courage are rewarded through a scoring system that awards points which can be accrued to unlock additional abilities and training that helps the player progress in the game.

The game is updated regularly to include new features and missions and highlight the new technologies being incorporated into today’s Army. The first version of the game, America’s Army: Operations, was released on July 4, 2002. The next major version of the game, released in late 2003, was America’s Army: Special Forces, which highlighted the critical and specialized role of the Special Forces in the Global War on Terrorism.

In 2009, the Army will launch an all new game, America’s Army 3 (AA3), where every detail countsTM. AA3 will bring players new insight into the Army and Soldiering and allow them to create a more interactive experience with customizable persistent characters and specialized training that unlocks new abilities. The PC game is available for download at www.americasarmy.com or on DVDs at recruiting or Army events.

Released by the U.S. Army, the game was conceived and is managed by the Office of Economic & Manpower Analysis (OEMA) at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. The Assistant Secretary of the Army for Manpower and Reserve Affairs is the proponent for the game, providing strategic direction to the Project. Major commands and field units of the U.S. Army provide subject matter experts to support development of game models and scenarios.

America’s Army:

* Blends first-person and persistent role-playing game genres to create a virtual world within which players explore Soldiering in the U.S. Army. This experience begins by immersing players in progressive individual and collective training environments that highlight key events within the Army’s initial entry training and advanced individual training. Building upon attributes gained during these game experiences, players progressively expand their capabilities and standing within the game by adhering to the Army’s set of noble values while serving as a member of small units in multiplayer missions that model operational units of the U.S. Army. As in the Army, player success is a function of adherence to norms of behavior, teamwork, and progressive developmental assignments.

* Is available on DVD at local Army Recruiting stations, ROTC Detachments, and Army events listed on the Army events calendar and via download at Internet sites listed at www.americasarmy.com.

* Is rated “T” for Teen by the Entertainment Software Ratings Board.

* Achieves unparalleled military realism in depicting Soldier experiences due to its development as an Army R&D project and due to the direct involvement of Army units modeled within the game. Subject Matter Experts are involved in every step of design, development and testing. A Master Sergeant in the Special Forces with 20 years experience modeled the actual military movements in the MoCap studio. Movements such as the tactical stances in the game are authentically Army.

* Depicts realistically the values, units, equipment, and career opportunities that make the Army the world’s premier land force.

* Offers truly immersive Soldier experiences by allowing players to explore progressive training opportunities such as Combat Medic training.

* Shows Soldier environments and life on and off duty at an Army base as well as Pride moments, which are significant Soldier career moments.

* Is unique due to the role that Army Values, such as honor, integrity, duty, and selfless service, as well as adherence to the laws of land warfare and realistic rules of engagement (ROE), play in pacing player progression within the game. The role these values play as a link between actions and outcomes or consequences is significant within the game.

* Is continually updated to incorporate new occupations, units, technologies, and adventures that mirror the dynamic nature of Soldiering in the U.S. Army.

* Features the Real Heroes program, which presents America’s Army Real Heroes as in-game characters and tells the stories of Soldiers decorated for valor. America’s Army Real Heroes uses in-game videos to recount the circumstances and actions for which these Army heroes were decorated for valor in the Global War on Terrorism. These Soldiers are presented as interactive characters in training missions throughout the game, as well as in the Virtual Recruiting Center.

AA3 Game features include:

* Multiplayer missions with up to 26 players in opposing teams. These missions unfold on Army servers or public and private community servers established by players to host their favorite missions and sponsor online game competitions.

* Customizable and persistent characters that can be enhanced through specialized training. Training unlocks new features and attributes to the player and allows the character to progress further in the game.

* New digital delivery system that makes it easier to obtain the game. The system provides an auto-update feature so players always have the latest version of AA.

* Integrated voice chat for efficient team communication.

* State-of-the-art graphics, sound and models powered by Epic Games' industry-leading “Unreal Engine 3.”

* Realistic in-game communications using different shouted and whispered commands, radio messages, and genuine military hand and arm signals.

* Standard Army force-on-force training practices so that players always perceive they are in the U.S. Army. Using this technique, a player’s comrades always appear to be in U.S. uniforms. The opposing force always appears to be in opposing force uniforms with appropriate equipment.

* Realistic equipment and military hardware such as automatic weapons (M249), the M1 colored smoke variants, assault rifles (M16A4), assault rifles with M320 grenade launchers as well as grenades (M67 fragmentation grenade, M83 smoke grenade, and flashbang), and the M4 Carbine featuring the Picatinny rail mod system for attaching sighting systems.

* Unique and unpredictable gameplay with America’s Army’s signature combination of random spawns with random and dynamic objectives, together random extraction points. Players can now select the variables.

* A personnel record, maintained in the player’s account page, which displays his or her awards and badges. Annotations in this virtual personnel file also include enhanced training and mission history.

* Parental controls that allow parents to tailor certain aspects of gameplay. For example, parents can disable all the blood in the game. They can also preclude their child from serving as a Designated Marksman.

* Single sign-on, account creation and management all within the game so that players can easily manage all of their America’s Army information.

* Mission preplanning allows players to not only organize and strategize before the round starts but also to assign objectives and select spawn points. Preplanning also allows them to select extraction points as well as weapon loadouts (light, medium or heavy) which impact the player’s speed on the battlefield and the amount of gear and ammo they carry.

* A scoring system that tracks player’s actions and their ability to work as a team that are recorded as six different types of scores all tied to specific Army values. The seventh Army value, Honor, is used as a score to track the overall, or aggregate score from the other six Army values.

* Mission variety including assault/defend, destroy/protect, extract/defend, take & hold, VIP escort/ambush, and assault alpha/assault beta. Each map will have three different gameplay modes that are taken from these game types.
